The listed former salt mining administration building stands as a prominent, solitary structure at the southern entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt. The recently vacant building is now slated to be transformed into a restaurant and five-star hotel through an extension.

The extension, positioned at a respectful distance and subordinate in height to the existing structure, follows the contours of its surroundings. Its urban placement southwest of the existing building creates a defined plaza between the historic ensemble of chapel, church, and the former salt mining administration building, enhancing the overall impression.

The new building comprises a slender, elevated cube with six stories and a wave-like horizontal structure, the four stories of which are partially embedded in the hillside. The extension will accommodate a total of 100 beds with panoramic lake views, while the existing building will contain 20 suites and a restaurant with a spacious ground-floor terrace overlooking the lake. The extension connects to the existing building on the south side, ensuring step-free access from all rooms to the communal areas.
